Scouts and Guides (Rovers –Rangers)
The Bharat Scouts and Guides is the national Scouting and Guiding association of India.
Scouting was founded in
India in 1909, whereas Guiding in India started in 1911. Scouting and Guiding is an approved type of character
training & preparation for good citizenship designed for the benefit of boys and girls. Insisting on a sense of
responsibility and trustworthiness affords to be individual opportunity for developing initiative and leadership and
promotes self-control, self-reliance and self-direction. Scouting and Guiding is based upon three broad principles
which represent fundamental laws and beliefs. They are referred to as: “Duty to God”, “Duty to others” and “Duty to
self”.
The Aim of Scouting and Guiding is four-fold. The first is the formation of character; the
second is the formation
of sound health habits. The third is the training in the handicraft and the acquiring of useful skills; and the
fourth is the cultivation of a proper spirit of service efficiently. The pursuit of this aim leads to the
development of good citizenship, among boys and girls.
Shaheed Hira Singh Government PG College has Rovers and Rangers units to perform in social
activities in various
sectors and inculcate social, emotional, intellectual and ethical values among students. The rovers and rangers are
trained in various ways to make them competent and capable in a wide range of fields as social service, civil
defence, disaster management, firefighting first aid, environment conservation and community development programmes
through camp district, state and national levels. The Rovers (Boys) and Rangers (Girls) units of the college work
efficiently under the guidance of Dr. Naushad Ahamad.
