Situated near the bank of holy river Ganges, 55 Km. away from the historical from Varanasi and in the land of martyrs, Shaheed Hira Singh Government Degree College, Dhanapur, Chandauli is one of the oldest and premier Government institutes of higher education providing conventional degree courses at Under Graduate level in the rural and under developed area of district Chandauli. The College was established in the year 1979 by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh as one of the pioneering institutes of higher learning with the noble objective of imparting higher education to the students of rural, economically and socially backward sections of the society at their doorsteps at minimal economic cost through optimal utilization of available resources. The college is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi (U.P.), and follows the curriculum, guidelines and ordinance stipulated by it. We are governed by State Government of Uttar Pradesh and follow its norms and policies.

The college has co-education system, the motto of this institution has been, besides education, bringing the spark of knowledge to young minds, and rapidly inculcating confidence, its main aim is to inculcate values among the students and live up the expectations of a good life. Our college is contributing to the national developmental process by catering the needs of students belonging to rural poor and weaker section by providing quality education, fostering the competence, employable life skills inculcating moral and ethical values, community awareness and overall personality development.

Our college always attracts students for higher education. As the region is very backward and not well connected by rail and rail, parents have no other option but to choose the college for their wards especially for girl’s students. Being Government College, education is not expensive, the college has maintained its discipline, catering local need for standard of education, equalitarian environment for students and supervision by experienced faculty members. Currently State Government has provided two faculties that are arts, and science. We have seven (07) U.G. Courses in Arts, they are  Hindi, English, Political Science, History, Sociology, Sanskrit and Economics five (05) subjects in U.G. Courses in Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology. Presently, we have separate buildings for science and arts blocks and all mandatory facilities in the college campus. Many sort of extension activities are also available in the College, like provisions for  indoor – outdoor games and sports facilities, National Service Scheme, Rover/Ranger units etc. If we compare this to where we have started, we have progressed a lot, infrastructure-wise and academically.
